North West London Health Care Partnership supporting Mayor’s Academies Programme

Published on: 22nd February 2022

North West London Health Care Partnership is supporting the Mayor’s Academies Programme (MAP) aimed at getting Londoners into good work in priority sectors, including health and social care.

The programme will coordinate training and provide bespoke support to help newly skilled people into work across several sectors. £250,000 funding has been provided by the Greater London Authority (GLA) to support the Health Academy.

The objectives of the Mayoral Academies programme are:

  • to help fill vacancies in priority sectors with skilled people
  • to raise the profile of these sectors for potential applicants
  • to get Londoners into direct employment, apprenticeships, traineeships or self-employment/freelance work
  • to support the further education sector to deliver industry relevant provision
  • to gain insights into the priority sectors and to support specific groups of Londoners, including young black men, to overcome barriers to entry into the sectors identified
  • to support employers and further education colleges to address structural barriers to engagement, recruitment, retention and progression for under-represented groups in their workforce

Across six academies, there are 22 hubs which bring together employers, education and training providers in each sector. North West London Health Care Partnership is one of three hubs in the Health Academy.

Our hub will cover the London boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, Westmisnter, Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham. We plan to focus on a range of shortage occupations including midwives, allied health professionals, health care support workers, nurses (including mental health nurses), data analysts and finance staff.

We will focus on engaging and supporting Londoners who are underrepresented in the sector, or those that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic to gain employment. We will also be providing support and tools to employers to help them address workforce diversity.
