NW London CCG working with local students from The Global Academy to promote uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine

The local NHS engagement team in Hillingdon has recently worked in collaboration with Global Academy students aged 14-19 years old to create a video aimed at younger people to encourage uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The video highlights how quick and easy it is to get your jab at a Covid-19 vaccine pop-up or mobile site and is designed to encourage those that haven’t already done so to get their vaccination.
Richard Ellis, Borough Lead for Hillingdon said:
‘I would like to highlight the students’ dedication, professionalism and hard work in creating this video. Everyone was very excited and delighted with the idea of being able to help the NHS. I have to say that it has been a real pleasure working with them and I hope that this is the first of many other collaborations.’
The Global Academy is a University Technical College located on The Old Vinyl Factory site in Hayes, London. The college opened in September 2016 and is sponsored by the media and entertainment group Global and by University of the Arts London. The Covid-19 vaccine video was directed, written and filmed by the students.
The students realised that a lot of their friends were scared or unsure of getting the vaccine. By creating the video, they wanted to show how easy and straightforward getting the vaccine is and reassure those around them who may have concerns about the process.
Sam West, an 18-year-old student who directed the video said:
‘Some people our age think it will take too long or be painful. We wanted to create a short video to show that they don’t need to be scared of it and there are different places to go to make it quick and easy.’
Tomi Afolabi, a 19-year-old student, who was one of the actors and also helped to write the script said:
‘I was telling my mate about the video and he didn’t even know there was a vaccine bus so it’s good we have been able to raise awareness and show you don’t need to go to a hospital or surgery which might make you feel more anxious.
We really enjoyed creating this and hope to work with the NHS again in the future, it was really fun and cool to help out the NHS.’
Being able to work with the local community and get them involved in the work we are doing has been fantastic in getting key messages out to the communities we serve, and the CCG is working with target audiences who specifically know the worries of their peers. We are really pleased with this collaborative work and looking forward to doing more collaborations to raise awareness in the future for other campaigns.
