The NHS Long Term Plan

Across the country NHS teams are working to develop local responses to deliver the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan.

“As medicine advances, health needs change and society develops, so the NHS has to continually move forward so that in 10 years’ time we have a service fit for the future.

“The NHS Long Term Plan will do just that. Drawn up by those who know the NHS best – frontline health and care staff, patients and their families and other experts. It will give everyone the best start in life; deliver world-class care for major health problems, such as cancer and heart disease, and help people age well.” NHS England – Long Term Plan

Developing our Long Term Plan in NW London is a key focus for the organisation and we are working with our stakeholders and the public as we consider and shape our response.

Engagement in NW London - hearing from you

Throughout July and August 2019 we met with members of the public across NW London to give us their views on healthcare to help us shape our Long Term Plan.

We asked people to share their views on healthcare services now and how you would like to see them delivered in the future.

We were keen to hear from the people about how we can:

  1. Improve your care that is provided locally
  2. help people know when to use A&E and direct people where to go when it is not an emergency
  3. help people understand and use health digital technology
  4. join up health and care services to make sure everyone in our community has access to the right care when they need it

This period of engagement is now closed

Reports form our engagement can be read here:

  1. Healthwatch report - NW London Healthwatches held 18 events and spoke with 257 local people, ensuring that local issues, concerns and understanding of what is working well has been captured in our plans for improving health and care services over the next five years.

  2. NW London health care partnership engagement report - Engagement teams across the NW London health and care partnership have also spoken to residents at community events, in shopping centres, A&E, outpatient departments, GP centres and public focus groups. Over 500 people provided written feedback.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to talk to us and share their views.

The publication of our long term plan and our priorities for the next five year’s will not by any means mark the end of our engagement on the areas of work included in it. This is just the beginning and as we further develop and implement programmes we will continue to work with staff, patients and the public, to ensure we shape and tailor the right support, services and outcomes for people in NW London.
