Medication for people stranded abroad or overseas visitors stranded in the UK

ACTION: Read the guidance here

North West London CCGs has published some guidance for managing patients who have been stranded overseas during Covid-19, or patients who are overseas visitors stranded in the UK during Covid-19.

Changes to GP Connect

ACTION: Read this message in full

Your practice will have received the letter ‘Publications approval reference: 001559’ from NHSX dated 24 April, describing temporary changes being made to GP Connect, in order to support the national Covid-19 response. View it again here for reference.

In regards to GP Connect Appointment Management, North West London CCGs has discussed and agreed with NHSE that our existing appointment booking processes will continue for LCW and Care UK 111 providers to book appointments directly into general practice within core hours.

In addition the national CCAS and LCW and Care UK are able to book Covid-19 related appointments directly into the Escalated Care clinics (hot hubs) in hours and out of hours Saturday and Sunday 8am to 8pm.

This means that unless you have been directly contacted by your primary care lead on this topic, practices in North West London do not need to take any action at this point and it is not necessary to contact your clinical system supplier or to locally configure your clinical system.

Please note that GP Connect HTML Patient Record View (authorised clinical staff in general practice, NHS 111 and in other care settings providing direct care, to view clinical information from a patient’s GP record) will be enabled by system suppliers over the coming days as per the letter and practices do not need to do anything.

North West London CCGs will be working with 111 providers in the coming weeks to pilot the GP Connect Appointment Management functionality, and further communications about this will follow.

NHS Volunteer Responder scheme: an update

ACTION: Share this opportunity as appropriate

From this week people within the ‘shielded’ group due to certain health conditions can also self-refer for access to support from a volunteer. This also includes otherwise vulnerable people because of age, frailty, disability or because they are pregnant. Carers can also call on the help of volunteers, including those who are living at a distance.

Further information about how to refer and what the volunteers can do is at this link: https://volunteering.royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk/nhs-volunteer-responders-portal. Please disseminate to help ensure we are supporting those most vulnerable in your community.

E-learning guide from Royal College of GPs on patient shielding

RCGP has produced an e-learning resource about shielding vulnerable patients from COVID-19. The module discusses the details of who needs to shield and what GPs need to do next.

Reminder: NHSEI and NHSX webinars and other training resources available here

NHSEI and NHSX continue to run a series of webinars online, aimed specifically at primary care. As always, you can view the latest dates and other details here.
